The Challenge:

The client faced a malfunction in their filtration system. A clamp was incorrectly placed on the boot, outside of the guide channel, causing the boot to be poorly attached to the cell plate hole on the collector. When pressure on the filter increased due to use and blinding, and because it was not properly secured to the collector, the filter boot tore apart. This led to machine downtime and potential damage to the equipment.

The Solution:

For Fab-Tex the solution was straightforward: correcting the installation errors. The team immediately took action to correct the installation. The process was simple but required precision advice, focusing on proper installation of the clamp.

Steps Taken:

  • Inspection: The team identified that the clamp was not in the correct groove.
  • Adjustment: The clamp was repositioned to the top groove of the rubber boot.
  • Reinstallation: The boot was properly reattached to the mounting plate, preventing any future disconnection.
  • Final Testing: The system was thoroughly tested to ensure functionality and performance.

The Outcome:

After Fab-Tex suggested the necessary adjustments, the filtration system was restored to optimal working condition. Having the correct installation of the clamp will prevent the rubber boot from splitting, as the pressure is now evenly distributed and supported throughout the filter.

Immediate Impact:

  • The filter system operates without issues after the proper clamp installation.
  • The boot won’t encounter further splits, even under increased pressure.
  • Long-term Outcomes:
  • Lower maintenance costs due to fewer failures and replacements needed.
  • Better system performance and less downtime.
  • Better overall reliability of the filtration system.

Key Takeaways:

  • Proper Installation Matters: Even a small mistake in installation can cause significant problems down the line, as was the case with the incorrect clamp placement.
  • The Filters Aren’t Always the Problem: Filters are often the first component blamed when something goes wrong, but a thorough inspection can reveal the real the root cause, like a faulty installation.
  • Prevention is Key: Proper training and awareness of installation processes are essential to ensure smooth operation and longevity of the equipment.
